William (Bill) Russell Hodge

Bill Hodge

Bill Hodge is Chief Executive officer of The Young New Zealanders Foundation as part of YouthHealth International Team Under YouthHealth USA's Support. Bill is decorated with: Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal; New Zealand Police Bronze Merit Award; N.Z.S.S.M. (New Zealand Special Service Medal).

After serving in New Zealand and Australia as a school-teacher and probation officer Bill, joined the New Zealand Police in 1971. In the same year he married his wife Shannon. While living in Wellington in the 1970s (attached to Police National Headquarters) they had two children, Leon and Roseanne. Following a period of general duties in a provincial city he was appointed to the Police Youth Education Service in which he served as National Co-ordinator and later as Region Co-ordinator in Auckland.

Bill is Chief Executive officer of The Young New Zealanders Foundation as part of YouthHealth International Team Under YouthHealth USA's Support. In 1987, with substantial help from Rotary International (in USA and NZ), he studied drug-related education and enforcement with the Los Angeles Police Department. After graduating he returned to New Zealand and participated in establishing drug education in New Zealand.

In 1992 Bill was made a Rotary International 'Paul Harris Fellow', and in 1998 received a D.A.R.E. America Citation for services to drug-related education among youth. Both of these were a cause of great pride for him;

In 1997, his final year in the Police before retirement, he founded the Safer Streets Trust which later became the Young New Zealanders' Foundation, of which he is currently the Chief Executive Officer. The Foundation seeks to help young people achieve success in their lives both for their own sakes as well as that of their country. Bill was joined in 1999 by Bill Davey, another retired police officer, upon whom he looks as the second founder. Under the direction of the "two Bills", the Foundation has expanded to become a supplier of much valued resources and services throughout New Zealand. Bill Hodge's Partcipation Board Chair for YouthHealth USA is invaluable as New Zealend is like a little america and together we get to perfect the programs to give the ultimate benefit of a happier better life of contribution to each benefactor of YouthHealth USA's Programs
