William James(bill) Davey

>
Bill Hodge

Bill is practicing Christian and is an elder in his Church of Aotearoa –New Zealand. Bill is a family man who is still married to his original wife Gill, after 46 years, a father of five, a grand-father of thirteen and a great-grand-father of two children-at time of writing those numbers may change (smile)

Bill was born in England but immigrated to New Zealand in 1967. In 1995 Bill was awarded the Queens Service Medal, (Queen's Birthday Honors List), for services to the community, (particularly in Auckland), in New Zealand. Bill, a Police veteran, served for almost 33 years and became a specialist when working, for over 25 years, with children and young people in various Juvenile Justice, Youth Education and Community Group settings. .

Bill also has specific experience in the social support of young people and helped pioneer Restorative Justice procedures within the New Zealand Police, the Government Welfare Service, and various community or cultural groups. .

Following his retirement from the New Zealand Police Bill managed the Victim Support Organization at Auckland for over a year before responding to a request that he work in a Youth Justice Co-ordination role with the Government Welfare Agency. He declined an offer of a full time position, preferring to pursue work within the Young New Zealander’s Foundation. Bill formerly joined the Foundation (then the Safer Streets Trust) in February 1999, following several months of a casual and volunteer work association. ;

Bill is currently committed to the design of new materials and resources appropriate for assisting young people to identify and enter a career of personal choice. Bill believes that any keen and willing young person can be helped to set their own goals, develop their own strategies and plan for their own future, but that some may need more help than others. While some individuals may need to be helped by being rescued, others may be equipped with ideas, whereas older young adults might just need help with the skills of goal setting, together with sufficient strategies and confidence to get launched on their own merit and endeavor. Bill is currently the General Manager of the Foundation.
